INSTALAÇÃO DIREITO À EDUCAÇÃO / RIGHT TO EDUCATION INSTALLATION
Em maio de 2023, no âmbito do concurso “Que Europa? O que temos, o que queremos, o que falta fazer”, uma iniciativa conjunta do Centro de Documentação Europeia da Universidade de Évora (CDE) e do Europe Direct do Alentejo Central e Litoral (EDACL), destinada a premiar trabalhos originais integrados na exposição homónima comemorativa do Dia da Europa de 2023, convidámos a Professora Maria João Machado e os seus alunos da turma de Desenho A, 11.º H, da Escola Secundária Gabriel Pereira, em Évora, a realizarem um painel de homenagem aos jovens ucranianos impedidos de frequentar a escola devido à guerra.
Para a realização da obra, os estudantes trabalharam digitalmente o mapa da Ucrânia e as estrelas da bandeira da União Europeia, projetando posteriormente a composição sobre um painel de madeira, que viria a ser pintado manualmente. O processo articulou práticas de desenho digital, projeção e pintura, cruzando meios tecnológicos e técnicas tradicionais na construção da peça final.A exposição procurava promover reflexões, peças e instalações artísticas desenvolvidas por estudantes, docentes e pela comunidade em geral, em torno da construção de uma Europa multicultural, mais igualitária, inclusiva e sustentável, no contexto do Ano Europeu de 2023 — Ano Europeu das Competências.
Integrada na mostra de trabalhos dos estudantes da Escola de Artes da Universidade de Évora, esta iniciativa procurou igualmente afirmar a arte como espaço de memória, solidariedade e consciência cívica. Junto ao painel pintado, podia ler-se: “Por favor, escreva uma mensagem de esperança para a Adelina, o Jan, o Dimitr, a Anichka, o Oleh, o Feliks, o Ilay, a Daryna, a Freya, a Glafira, a Inna, a Klavdiia, o Yehor, o Georgiy, a Liliya, o Denys, a Marichka, a Olena, a Viktoria, a Zlata, o Kirill, entre muitos outros jovens como tu, que não podem ir à escola por causa de uma guerra cruel e desumana.”
In May 2023, within the framework of the competition “What Europe? What We Have, What We Want, What Still Needs to Be Done”, a joint initiative organised by the European Documentation Centre of the University of Évora (CDE) and Europe Direct Alentejo Central e Litoral (EDACL), created to award original works included in the homonymous exhibition commemorating Europe Day 2023, we invited Professor Maria João Machado and her students from the 11th Grade Art Drawing class (11.º H) at Gabriel Pereira Secondary School, in Évora, to create a tribute panel dedicated to young Ukrainians prevented from attending school due to the war.
For the creation of the work, the students digitally developed the map of Ukraine and the stars of the European Union flag, later projecting the composition onto a wooden panel, which was subsequently painted by hand. The process combined digital drawing practices, projection techniques and painting, bringing together technological media and traditional artistic methods in the construction of the final piece. The exhibition sought to encourage reflections, artworks and artistic installations developed by students, teachers and the wider community around the construction of a multicultural, more equal, inclusive and sustainable Europe, within the context of the European Year 2023 — European Year of Skills.
Integrated into the exhibition of works by students from the School of Arts of the University of Évora, this initiative also aimed to affirm art as a space of memory, solidarity and civic awareness. Next to the painted panel, visitors could read: “Please write a message of hope for Adelina, Jan, Dimitr, Anichka, Oleh, Feliks, Ilay, Daryna, Freya, Glafira, Inna, Klavdiia, Yehor, Georgiy, Liliya, Denys, Marichka, Olena, Viktoria, Zlata, Kirill, among many other young people like you, who cannot go to school because of a cruel and inhumane war.”
